Holy smokes........

While working on the laundry room Reno I ran in to a problem, while installing junction boxes it was particular hard to mount the junction boxes to the concrete slab. I purchased concrete screws with which you have to predrill then insert the screws this still takes time and often seems like it's going nowhere. Daddy Dave did purchase a new toy to aid with drilling through concrete but this particular tool was a rotary hammer drill. It drills like butter through concrete but was to large to use in the crawl space. After a couple try's with a reg drill daddy Dave could take it no more. If I can't drill up than ill drill down, and so daddy Dave took some measurements and crawled out from under the house back inside and drilled down through the slab. Above you can see a couple of the holes left over from drilling, I'm not worried about the cosmetics of it being this floor will be tile and will not affect the appearance or compromise the strength.

A shot from down under you can see the 2x4's securely mounted to the concret slab. This allowed daddy Dave to secure the new plumbing and electrical lines as well as the junction boxes.

With the installation of new plumbing daddy Dave was sure to add shut off valves and a clean out acces to make future maintance easier.

Outdoor outlet ........

While working on the laundry room Reno daddy Dave had to relocate the washer and dryer to the other side of the room leaving this hole where the old dryer vent resided. What will daddy dave with this hole? I just can't leave it, it would be like a doggy door for insects and wildlife.

He decided to put an outdoor outlet here, sense the wireing is being redone it shouldn't be to hard to wire this in and it would be nice to have for future events christmas, birthday party's etc........this install was just like the installation of the dryer vent in last blog

Here we have the finish install, daddy Dave still needs to install a outlet and wire into the existing grid.

Heres a closer look after the install.

How to install heavy duty dryer vent ........

Here we have a self proclaimed (heavy duty) dryer vent purchased from that home improvement store found in the vinyl siding section not with the reg dyer stuff.

First daddy Dave marked from the inside where he wanted the vent to be located and drilled a hole in the center.

On the outside he took the bracket and marked just the area which needed to be cut out and drilled holes in each corner.

Then he took a jig saw and connected the corners....

Then you can pry apart the vinyl siding at the seams just enough to slide in the mounting bracket.

Next the excess was trimmed off with a pair of heavy duty vinyl scissors ......for a better fit.

Next the back bracket was screwed into the supports to hold in place. you'll have to pull the siding away as you mount the bracket and the sideing popped back together.

Then the face plate was just popped/snapped back into place.......

Success

A pic from the inside, this room is still unfinished which makes it a little easier to work

Daddy Dave took a scrap peice of tubing off the old vent, screwed it into place with sheet metal screws and hooked it up for a test dry.

Landscape transplant....

While out working on a clients landscape they had decided to remove a couple azaleas, so they were donated to the "Daddy Dave's lands creations " a nonprofit orginzation which gladly takes unwanted plants and rehomes them.

Daddy Dave had an ideal spot, a slightly shaded spot in a unused area, here on the side of a small hill in the middle of daddy Dave's back yard.

After the new- used azaleas were planted daddy Dave had to readjust the stopper on Barkley's runner, to prevent him from Watering them further.

Daddy Dave did have help from his oldest daughter here she sports some Gardner crack as she washes her hands.

Laundry Reno progress.....

With a day off from the office and landscaping business slowing I had a full day to concentrate on the laundry room. Here we have the drain and supplie lines of which are in need to be moved to a new location(the other side of the room). Of course this is easier said than done .........way easier said.

First I needed a 2" hole for the drain line, after trying a purchased 2" hole bit which failed miserably I resorted to the one thing I know....... improvise. Here I used a masonry bit and drilled a honeycomb pattern. Then I took a chisel and connected the dots.

After cleaning out the new drain hole two new water supplie lines holes were drilled.

After a day of crawling on my stomach, cramped, wet and dirty I finally got the dain lines and supplie lines moved to their new home. Here is the old spot nothing but a couple of abandoned holes.

Now the dryer has its best friend, side by side they stand ready for the next load to be thrown in.

Laundry room continued

With the can lights recently installed it was time to wire them up, the wireing is simple push fittings included.

Next..... hook up the next can light on the same line.

Wire the switch and walla we have lights......

Next I needed to move the dryer outlet to the other side of the room. This was done with a junction box under the house.

And ran new lines for the dryer and a dedicated washing machine line to their new locations.

First the dryer outlet was hooked up successfully.

Here's a pic of the dryer in its new location and functioning, I still need to run a new dryer vent.

Tightrope ..........

Here daddy Dave is installing a cable from the house to the garage to aid in future shade for relaxing. On one end of a recycled cable I attached a spring.

The other end an old hook is attached, this allows for an easy hook up and unhook.

The line is barely visible, here my two girls play in the sprinkler it won't be to long before it's too cold for that.
