New spot....

Here we have another project, it was time to put this donated out building to use. It seems that daddy Dave needs a little more space on his side of the garage. The only way to achive this is to clean up his side, daddy Dave did contemplate on taking over momma Mandy's side but decided against this to keep the peace. With extra rental supplies adding clutter it would make sense to store them in this empty building untill they were needed(lumber, paint, doors etc). The trick was to back down in between the two allready positioned trailers and hook up to the building(all ready on a trailer) pull it back up the hill and unload all without getting stuck.

Well it didn't get off to a good start, matter of fact just as daddy Dave was backing in between the two trailers disaster struck. As he was backing up he was concentrating on one trailer and hit the other, stoping just short of a new dent but not without scratching his Mirror. Then it was relized he was stuck, with no way to move ether the truck or trailer it looked as if daddy Dave was domed. With no hope in going forward daddy Dave figured continuing to back up couldn't hurt so after a carefully calculated turn of the stearing wheel a disaster was avoided, but now there was no going back

For better or for worse daddy Dave was in it to win it. After backing up too the trailer it was quickly relized that daddy Dave was yet once again stuck, but after some brain storming daddy Dave had an idea. Back in his youth daddy and some of his buddy's used to do a little 4x4ing. One technique of which often came in hand was to let air out of the tires as to gain a wider tire print and gain more traction. This was done and the new trailer was hooked up as to add weight to the already spinning tires.

As you can see this combination of tricks worked well for daddy Dave and success was achieved with minimal slippage.

Here is the new desired spot for the out building.

And here it is in its new home, the unloading of the building was just as exciting and dramatic as the retrieving it from the back yard. Daddy Dave received a helping hand( big Nate) and sucess was again achived, next up a couple repairs need to be made and then filling it up with rental supplies.

Scrap.....

Daddy Dave has been collecting some scrap appliances left over from rental work and they have been piling up besides the garage. It was time to make a trip to the scrap yard and see what kind of cheddar their worth.

Here is the scrap yard chariot of which to haul the metal to the place of business, this usually hauls daddy Dave's lawn mowers but today it serves another purpose.

After loading the truck and trailer we were ready for the short drive to the scrap yard.

Unloading at the scrap yard was a breeze with the help from the "CLAW", the operator just grabbed the appliance and tossed the into a pile.

Here we have an empty truck and trailer, it was worth the trip. Daddy Dave has a few more items he needs to drop off but that's for another day.

Dough not ......

Here after breakfast Malia enjoys a glaze donut. The other day while momma Mandy was makeing out her weekly grocery list Malia told her to remember to put donuts on the list. After work daddy Dave picked up a couple glaze donuts for the morning meal, he played right into her little hand.

Ella enjoys a half......

Merritt drywall .....

Not much drywall work was needed on the latest project but some was needed around the newly installed window.

Here the drywall is installed just in need of some taping and mudding.

Some trim work added still a couple peices needed to finish it off/ hide the imperfections.

One hole in need of patching probably left by an unhappy tenet.

First the whole was squared off....

Some new supports added to aid in securing new drywall.....

New drywall installed........awaiting mud.

Sickly........

Ole daddy Dave and little miss Ella caught some sort of bug, so for the past couple days they had very light fevers and some discomforts that come along with it. Here the two sicklys stick together while they wait for the bug to pass.

Rental kitchen work......

On the latest project daddy Dave wanted to turn this stove top insert into a place in which too slide a regular stove. By doing this the renters would supply their own appliances In turn saving on some rent and keeping the land lords from having to supply/fix/replace any appliances.

Here the counter top has been cut and the rebuilding of the cabinets begun, it may look like a mess but there is a system to the chaos.

Here we have the newly rebuilt cabinets just in need of a coat of paint

Another item in the kitchen was this ancient oven which no longer be needed if another was located in the kitchen, so it was removed.

An extra shelf was added and the old cabinet doors which were removed from where the new oven would sit were cut to size and reused. Daddy Dave may still add another shelf to help utilize the open space more.

Siding repair continued .....

Above you can see a damaged section of Masonite siding on the Merritt property, with the improper gutters installed this caused the water to run down the siding causing some water damage.

Here the old siding was removed very carefully as not to disturb the original siding which contains asbestos. Asbestos siding is ok as long as it's not disturbed, being that it releases harmful particals in the air, and is quiet costly to have removed. So covering the old with new siding is a cost efficient and safe way to achieve potential harm from breaking up asbestos.

Not being able to buy the previously used siding "Masonite", daddy Dave had to make his own stripping sheets of plywood into the desired width(this was suggested by grandpa Anderson and worked quite nicely).

Next it needed to be sealed with a fresh coat of paint, but after buying the paint and starting the work it was discovered the colors didn't match. With rno time to go back to the store and rain in the forcast for the next couple of days this needed to get done regardless the color. The siding would need a second coat any way and then daddy Dave will make sure the match is a match.

Merritt Wood siding .....

In a past blog daddy Dave replaced a spent window with this new energy efficient set, but the extirior still needed to be addressed. Daddy Dave decided to do a section of 5" wood slat siding to contrast the existing 12"siding currently on the rest of the house. First the area to be sided was framed out.

Then 5" slats were cut from a sheet of plywood and installed with a 3/4" overlap, Installing from the bottom. up

Here we have the newly sided section awaiting a coat of paint.

Wood on hood......

We seem to have a problem tree here on lenmore, it has died and keeps dropping spent limbs on daddy Dave's truck. With the recent windy days aided in the most recent drop-age. Above you can see the newly dropped limb, daddy Dave backs his truck as far as he can out of the way but evidently still not far enough out of the way of falling objects.

This new limb put a couple nice dents in the hood, but daddy Dave's not sure it's worth claiming on his insurance, being he just had a new windshield put in due to the same trees droppings.

Another dent, I guess it adds character , it at least builds character for old daddy Dave to hold his tongue. It looks like a new project just got bumped up on the list of things to do. I better drop that tree before it continues to drop limbs/trunk.
