The other day daddy Dave got a phone call from uncle Nate saying he had concern about a leaking water main, being daddy Dave has fixed a few of these he loaded up and headed over. Sure enough there was a leak in the water main the section of buried water piping from the street meter to the house shut off valve. This needed to get fixed right away so digging began, here's a pic of the area prior to starting the job. Water was leaking into the basement around the area were the main came into the basement, meaning the break may be closer to the house so this was the place to begin digging.
Here the break was uncovered, this is extremely old galvanized piping has seen better days. Next we had to keep uncovering the piping in order to find a union in which we could undo the pipes to get some clean threads in which to thread new fittings into.
With not too much more digging the union was uncovered.
After a trip to lowes to acquire some hardware the water main was reconnected and ready for business, this job was completed in about a 5hr time frame.
Here's a pic of the hookup into the existing water piping, a new shut off valve was also installed.
