Marshall's water main............

The other day daddy Dave got a phone call from uncle Nate saying he had concern about a leaking water main, being daddy Dave has fixed a few of these he loaded up and headed over. Sure enough there was a leak in the water main the section of buried water piping from the street meter to the house shut off valve. This needed to get fixed right away so digging began, here's a pic of the area prior to starting the job. Water was leaking into the basement around the area were the main came into the basement, meaning the break may be closer to the house so this was the place to begin digging.

Here the break was uncovered, this is extremely old galvanized piping has seen better days. Next we had to keep uncovering the piping in order to find a union in which we could undo the pipes to get some clean threads in which to thread new fittings into.

With not too much more digging the union was uncovered.

After the piping was cut and carefully removed new piping was ran in place of the old. Ideally it would be good to completely replace the water main but this would fix the current leak(don't fix it if it ain't broke?)

After a trip to lowes to acquire some hardware the water main was reconnected and ready for business, this job was completed in about a 5hr time frame.

Here's a pic of the hookup into the existing water piping, a new shut off valve was also installed.

Breaking point.....

On a recent trip to Ohio with my sweet ladies to visit the wife's side of the family, we were sitting around the dinner table enjoying a delish meal prepared by gramma ta-Te daddy Dave's phone rang. Not wanting to be rude daddy Dave pulled his phone out to stop the call, but when he pulled it out he saw it was from a current renter.......dang he had to take this call. When he talked to the renter they said they were having problems with the toilet. It seems that the float had broken causing the water to keep running, with daddy Dave only being a couple states away and a 8 hr drive he asked if it was leaking etc or an emergency, they said they could just cut on/off the water via shut off valve when they needed to use untill I could get there. So first thing when daddy Dave got back on Monday was to load up his trailer and resolve this problem. Above you can see where the float broke, right where the float attaches to the water valve.

And of course daddy Dave had an few extra toliet valves on hand, one of which was put to use. The repair was quick and easy and soon a functioning toliet was achived. And not too soon for daddy Dave needed to go back home and wind down after 8 hours in the car with a 4 and 2 year old a little relaxing was needed.

Why what a large head you have.......

After the visit we headed outdoors for a picnic before a long car ride to see some distant family.

Ella was poked and prodded but here she enjoys some egg salad.

Steel gutters?.....

Another issue with the latest project was that someone had installed steel gutters on the house. What the problem with steel gutters you may ask.......well steel rust and gutters hold water not a combo made in heaven. 90% of the gutters on this house had no bottoms. With gutters purpose to help water get away from the structure, the rusted out gutters actual hindered this process.

This caused some damage to some of the exterior siding and windows. Here's a pic of one of the bay windows actual pretty extensively damaged due to the moisture. Not any thing daddy Dave can't fix but another project for another not so rainy day. The gutters have been removed they were also keeping moisture agianst the eves.

Amateur.........

With a break in the weather daddy Dave climbed on the roof of his latest project. There was a few spots of damage which needed to be addressed to aid in making insurance company's happy. Here at one time a tree had hit the side of the carport.

And this buckled section causing some shingals to lift.

First the bad section was cut away

New roofing deck installed.

And new tar paper down and ready for shingles...............

Dang it........amateur move.......while daddy Dave was picking up supplies he grabbed the wrong style of shingals, right color wrong Style, dang it.

The other section was replaced, minus shingles.

With the repairs made and ready for the shingles to be installed, daddy Dave just did an extra covering of tar paper and fastened it as a temporary fix.

Be mine....

For valentines day daddy Dave brought his ladies home some flowers. Both the daughters got a rose, Ella was quick to try and eat hers , and the rose head of Malias was soon separated from its body but they did love them for the short time they had them. Momma Mandy treated hers a little nicer and put them in some water.

Snow storm in concord....

Here's a pic out of the window from the safety and warmth of the house, you can see daddy Dave parked the car at the bottom of the steep driveway so that driving down the icey hill won't be a factor.

Here the girls are waiting to go play in the snow.

The Anderson's were going to have dinner with the Marshall's but with the storm and road conditions they decieded to take a stroll over to the Marshall's house instead of drive.

Cloudy with a chance of falling bullets........

While doing inspections on the Merritt property daddy Dave ran across this while doing a roof inspection, can you spot the object of discussion.

Well this is my kind of rental.......... Yep a spent bullet lodged in the roof........it seems as if daddy Dave has ran across this before on a previous rental roofing project. I guess it's a sign(weather it's a good sign or not), this was not a deterrent I mean who doesn't go out side and fire a couple rounds in the air to celebrate..........I hope it was in celebration!

Project revealed.....

In a past blog daddy Dave mentioned something about another project on the horizon well here it is, well call this one Merritt being that's the name of the street it's on. We were set to close on Wednesday but with the looming winter storm of 2014 on the horizon it was bump forward to today.

It's in fair condition with the list of projects not to long(fingers crossed)in order to get this one turned around and find another happy renter. It a spacious 3 bedroom, 2 bath, den, dinning room, livingroom with a attached carport with extra storage on a corner lot.

We are blessed and humble with our new addition to rentals but we still have a lot to be done but I'm sure your hear all about it in future blogs.
