wrapping it up.........

still finishing up a few last min items on the rental. the old exhaust for the gas heat and water heater needed to be capped, but being that the water heater still vents into the chimney it still needed to be functional. so after capping i wrapped the existing seams with heat temperature tape, hoping to help prevent exhaust leaks. and installed a carbon monoxide detector in the hallway.

pumpkin massacre.............

note to self when you are partaking in a pumpkin massacre, close the blinds. this was a pic taken from outside a residence, in a ritzy neighborhood. in which whom the partakers of this hanus crime did not even seem to care that the whole world could be looking in the window(that's why they make basements, people geez). in this pic the accused male seams to be enjoying pulling out the pumpkins guts, shame shame. the female is not innocent either, she seams to have both hands deep into her work.

is there no shame? after cutting an access into the pumpkins minds and scooping out their thoughts and cares making them mindless pumpkins. the accused then take to the blade, skillfully carving faces to suit their own wishes. they have even involved a minor into their gruesome activity, as if to teach the future generation of pumpkin carvers. and with the post of this blog it will begin a four day special, a pumpkin face a day will keep the children at bay. so stay tuned and change your pants for  a pumpkin  face off, will begin tomorrow, same internet, same blog. four pumpkins will fight for the right to be scariest pumpkin on the block.

this is one of sister #4's and hubby's cats, this ones name is bubbles. his calm demeanor is seen in this short clip when he comes face to face with Malia. he is just chilling........ if your scared.......... say your scared..... but not this cool calm collective feline.

 new unit.......................

with time drawing near and with  a new renter signed on the dotted line, daddy Dave was in a time crunch to get the new heating furnace into an operational state. with this being new territory and not knowing all the codes, rules,and laws pertaining to installing a new high efficiency gas furnace. when installing a new unit hook-up was not a s simple as unhook, re-hook. a new exhaust venting had to be ran(through roof) and drip pan and outside drain pipe, daddy Dave decided to turn it over to the pro's, for a piece of mind, but at a  piece out of ol do it your self-er daddy daves wallet...... ouch. paying someone to install was hard because ol Davy believes in do it yourself.....but safe renters, make happy renters and when it comes to venting exhaust, electrical and codes, it probably saved $ in the long run, but it was hard. Davey is happy to report that the installation went smooth as peanut butter and the new unit is installed and ready to keep those renters buns toasty.

this last week we took a trip out to the great pumpkin patch, so Malia could pick out  "The great pumpkin". as seen in this first pick, mother mandy and malia are loaded up and ready for the hay ride out the the pumpkin patch. click on pic to enlarge

here my ladies are pictured together for a quick pumpkin quest photo. the baby pumpkin did not make it(it was green and dad opted to leave it behind). Malia called all the pumpkins, apples the entire time.

and of course how else to finish of a successful hay ride but with a nice cup of cider...mmmmmm delish.

habanero....no dinero?

well after a bit of joking around and trying to persuade sister #6 to eat a habanero(arguable one of the worlds hottest peppers) for $12, that ol scholarly brother quickly popped one in his mouth and chewed it up, brother #1 had offered a measly $5 for him to chew one up and swallow.......boy i think he thought differently once it was chewed and swallowed, but no turning back. in this pick he is trying to subdue the burn with a glass of milk.

 milk not work?.....how about a beer.......this seem to help somewhat. the scholarly brother does not seem to be as in as light of spirits as those around him(as seen in the smiling faces around). he did display all the symptoms of eating something hot, hiccups, cleared sinuses, watering eyes, uncontrollable shaking, red face not to mention what he felt the day after(the burn).

and to close with this pic which seem to sum it up.......why did i do that? and to top it off he didn't even take the dinero($5) what a sport. lesson learned............. schools out.

stand up or sit down, both feet on the floor, however you wipe, its still your chore. with this new paper holder its at a new level, a soft comfy roll or hard as the devil. it sits by your side making it easy to find,  within easy reach during a hard time. its on a roll to give you plenty, tug and pull untill rolls empty. if paper runs out have no fear, a short holler away,and a new roll may appear(if your lucky). cause a clean bumpty boo is always the key, when your done flush down and its off to the sea......this looks like trouble for Malia to get into.

the other evening at work, i got a text from an unknown number, this is how the whole conversation went down. now remember this was texting only no actual conversation. click on image to have a better look.

a nice relaxing spot.............

Malia found a nice relaxing spot. momma Mandy decided to get out her colder weather clothes, when she set down the tub and turned around the next thing you know Malia unpacked it for her. just not so neat and then decided to make it her new relaxing spot.

project....code name..Malia down for a nap.......

this is a couple of pics i like to call, project....code name..Malia down for a nap. usally when i get off work and my lovely dearest wife has to go to work, around this time is nap time for malia. in this allotted time i have the freedom of not keeping a constant eye on baby girl(always a constant ear via-baby monitor), usually a hour and a half to two hours. well with all the work and up-coming work on rentals i some times have to unload and load all my heavy machinery by myself. this ole table saw has been a pain so i figured just add some wheels..........

so that's what i did. i built a frame on the underside, in which the saw sits firmly upon. this has not been field tested yet, and potential adjustments may be needed.

yearly maintenance.............

yearly maintenance was due on the blower motor on the fireplace insert. the other morning i fired up the ole fireplace for the first time, and as it started to heat up the house nicely all of a sudden the blower went out. darn it, but seeing how that ole boyscout of a husband is always prepared, he just so happened to have a spare blower motor on hand(coincidence? i think not). after pulling the blower unit from the insert(and one 2nd degree burn later), he was not to suprised to find the moter and surunding areas clogged with dust and spider webs. what would be the best way to clean this debrie which was choking the life from the motor?..........a wisk broom... na.......compressed air...na used it all on the computer.......ah...... i have an idea.............

#493 use for a leaf blower............... after the dust settled i am happy to report that all it needed was a little cleaning.  the motor fired right up after a test plug-in, now were back in business.

new snake on the block..........

that's right new snake on the block, i didn't miss spell....... that's right new snake..... not new kids. just because this snakes not in a boy band, doesn't mean it wont make ol daddy Dave jump. while out cutting grass on one of the rentals Davy decide to go ahead and take an existing stack of cinder blocks back to the homestead, for a future project. after loading about  eight blocks he picked up one only to find this silvery fellow...o man did he jump. but have no fear, with the cooler weather this snake was in no mood to play, at least i didn't piiiisssssssssssss him off. well ol daddy Davy is still hanging tough.  ooooooooooooo,  oooooooo,   oooooooo,  oooooooo,  o,  just hanging tough.(music just doesn't write out that well)

hope it gets hot at the rental............

 well here is my latest project on the rental. with the weather getting cool it was time to make sure the ol gas furnace was gonna fire up. being this house is up for rent and a renter is pending approval(credit/criminal check), ill need to have it ready to go if/when they move in. it looked to be ancient and one never knows about these sorts of things, especially being i have no prier knowledge of this unit. after some inspecting i noticed two loose wires and two empty wire hook-ups, well one would put 2 and 2 together and think that this would work......wrong. i now need to also replace the hallway thermostat. o well, live and learn(note to self, next time read the wiring diagram posted on the unit....)

well while contemplating my next move i lucked out and ran across this almost brand new gas furnace on craigslist, i got a steal of a deal on it. this unit is two years old but in like new condition, it is 95% efficient so that might help out when the heating bill comes in the mail. all that's left to do is hook it up, this is new territory  for me so im taking my time and making sure i do it right(i have read the wiring instruction  twice). so wish me luck and ill keep ya in the loop:)

Barkley picking fights................

whats this about Barkley picking fights? well the other evening me and the wifey were off to go hang out with sister #4 and her hubby. while loading up the car with a few  items i turned around to my surprise to see a marble pit bull face to face with Malia. immediately i picked up Malia and handed her off to Mandy. we were surprised to see a dog of this bread just running around with no collar. pit bulls are well known for there aggressive behavior toward people and pets........o yeah pets. well Mr ol Barkley was outside on his runner, i looked over and saw the pit and Barkley very tensely sniffing each other. knowing Barkley i worried he might instigate something he still has his pair if ya know what i mean. so i tell my wife just to ignore and load up the car so we could leave. well as soon as i turnaround you guessed it they start to fight, i yelled to Mandy to take Malia and get in the call and call 911.





the fight was very aggressive teeth growling and all, not wanting this pit to kill Mr poops(he was atop of Barkley with his teeth in his back)i went into the garage to get a stick to break them up. i found a rake(not very smart would have broke easily) and go over to the fighting dogs i swing ........and miss the pit and hit Mr poops....... oops but it does the trick they stop fighting and part ways. the pit was not aggressive towards me so i ever so kindly persuaded it into the enclosed section of my yard as to keep it there until the police arrive, cant have a dog like this running around. as the adrenaline subsides and we wait for the officials we say our thanks, this situation could have been a lot worse. the pit could have attacked Malia right out, or after tangling with Barkley it could have turned on me, but never the less all ended well with the dog off to the dog jail and Barkley with no puncture wounds the outcome was good. well then off we went for a nice grilled dinner of burgers(daddy daves fav food).
