Gas saving tip for trailers......

While making many frequent trips done the highway with my enclosed trailer in tow I have been noticing the consumption of fuel. With the rising cost of gas, each trip down the road ended up with a trip too the gas store. See my enclosed trailer has a flat nose, some are made with a v-nose to help with the wind resistance, however mine is not. When I travel down the highway it's like running with a parachute.

So after some brain storming of which included making my own air visor and attaching to the roof of the cab to transforming the trailer to be a v-nose. An idea popped into that little brain of mine. Ya see tucked away in the garage was a bed cover being stored. Why not put it back on and ride down the road with it open(only on highway)  to help with the wind resistance. This has not been road tested as of yet and daddy Dave is contemplating making a removable brace to help take the stress off the lift springs during trips. A gallon of gas saved is a gallon of milk in the fridge.

Huh?

The other day while me and momma mandy were tag teaming the cleaning of the house, I cut on the iPod to get some jams pumping. Momma mandy started the vacuum up and started on the floors, malia was down for a nap so no time like the present to get some chores done. As the iPod powered up and the music started it went right into the last song which was playing.......boom boom rink tink boom ta ta boom boom some techno music started blasting.

Ya see the last time momma mandy was using her pod it was during a run so this was one of her running tracks. Momma mandy looked up and shouted "I LIKE THIS SONG, IT'S GOOD TO RUN TO". I nodded and said in a normal tone "yeah only if your deaf", to what mandy responded "WHAT?......WHAT?. My point exactly, but to be fair the song wasn't that bad and truth be told ol daddy Dave has actual listened to a little techno every once in a while during a run.

Moving shed.....

In a past blog I had blogged about a shed which sister #4and her hubby had donated to Anderson Property's. This shed was in need of a little repair so to make this process a little easier I decided to move it to the homestead on lenmore, we're the repairs could be made on Malias time(nap time). The above pic shows the load in question I needed to back it up the driveway into a predetermined spot.

here we go with brother in law #4, lending a hand and a watchful eye.

at last the shed has arrived, the back up the drive was a success with minimal stress and a few scrapping tree branches all went well.

how did such a payload make it without slipping off, well with a few well placed straps. Here you can see that lo daddy Dave drilled two holes one on each side of the sled support and the frame of the trailer. This was done on all four corners.

The straps were ran down, under and around for a firm hold on the trailer.

Presents in January?..........

With the anderson tradition at Christmas time we all get together at a later date and do a gift exchange with pre drawn names that were chosen at a earlier date. Well this year there was a little glitch, some of the gifts didn't make it to the event(no biggie). But now they have arrived and it was Christmas in January at the homestead on lenmore. Above Malia is pictured with her gift. Old daddy Dave's gifter was sister #5 who is currently located in Germany.

and her she is with her gift, a duck push toy with little flapper feet, soon she'll be chasing Barkley around.

ol daddy daves gift was a nice set of walkie talkies, he's got some ideas for these, they should come in handy.

and last but not least momma mandy received a nice set of cutlery jewelry. It's kind of like jewelry for you glasses and dishes. Very nice thanks guys for the great gifts and Late Marry Christmas to the three of you.

Oh my darling....clementine.....

Well with malia being all over the place, we really could use an extra set of eyes in the back of our head. the other day I was doing the dishes and looked over to see Malia messing around on the dinner table. So I went over to see what she was up to. She had one thumb stuck in a clementine like Tom thumb, and another partially peeled and a piece missing. This shows progress, she didn't eat the peel but got out a slice.

Drywall tastic.....

Just a couple pics of the drywall going up on the rental house, looks like its starting to come together.

yeah....this is a pic of the actual kitchen. It looks kind of small that's because it is. When we originally started this project the washer and dryer were apart of the kitchen, nothing like dinner and a load of laundry. So we decided to frame out a closet for the laundry room, which opens into the hallway. So the kitchen has the same amount of space just looks a little more closed in because of the extended wall.

Oreo head..........

In the morning while momma mandy was getting dressed, little Malia made her way to the kitchen and climbed up to the table top. What was atop the table but a package of delish Oreo's which momma and daddy had been enjoying along with each others company the night before, while Malia was asleep. This being the best time to eat sweets so that Malia is not tempted with the delish cookies. Momma snapped the above pic with her phone before promptly getting her down. Malia had no problem figuring out how to open the package.

here she is showing off her Oreos, still in her pjs.

Framing fun.........

After playing in the mud I had some framing to do, here we are with the new wall framed out with a large opening for the new laundry room.

and here we are with the laundry room framed out, now add a little drywall and drains a little electrical and a laundry room will soon be achieved.

Who needs 4x4 drive.............

Well as usual on my day off, out to the rental I went. as I pulled into the yard to back up to the house to unload tools/supplies, I noticed a loss of traction....$&@! Before I new it I was up to the rim in mud , after trying the quick fix solutions, none seemed to work. The only thing Left to do besides making a phone call was to jack up up the tire and put some bricks/gravel/rocks or what ever is lying around, under the tire for traction.

During one of my attempts at raising the truck the jack slipped knocking out the side of my truck, after a couple choice words and a swift kick to the side to pop the dent back in, back I went to work to raise the wheel from the mud. It was a challenge, with the jack and bricks sinking in the mud.

and here we are with brick under tire and a runway set to go.......it would seem all that was left to do was pull out..........but......

the other side lost traction also, so the same action had to be done to this side as well, and in the above pick we are ready for another shot. Brick underneath and a path laid out.

Wala finally I'm unstuck after a hour and a half.......so home I go? Nope I still got work to do on the house so I'll place a call to my sweet to let her know I wont be home for dinner.  Mmmmmm cold fish sticks. I think my next truck will have to be 4x4 wheel drive.

Face cream..........

It seems that malia has been watching her mother lately, she picked up this candle off the end table and started rubbing the wax on her face as if it was face cream. The wax was soft enough for her little fingers to scrape out and it smelled good to. You can see some wax on her cheeks in the above pic.

it seems that the "face cream" has made it to the outside door, you can see the smudges on the glass, tisk tisk.

Do not stand on top step...........

No where on the ladder did I see a warning which stated not to stand on top of a cinder block on top of the ladder. Hey...... I needed a few extra inches in order to get into the attic, it worked...... yeah not that smart, but it got the job done.

No lock?.......

Why no lock you may ask........well it seems that if you have a lock on your shed, you have something valuable inside. At least this seems to be the case on one of my properties. While out working on a rental I went out back to the shed were I have some stuff stashed, just some old insulation And  old cabinets nothing of any value I just put them in the shed to keep it out of the weather. It seems that someone took the liberty of cutting off my lock...$&@/-@&. Imagine their  surprise when they opened the shed hoping to find some goodies but instead found some roach infested cabinets.  So this time I just decided to put a zip tie on it, like my pops all ways said "you can't stop a thief", and maybe I won't lose a lock in the process. There is a couple of rules to live by when working on rentals. Measure twice and cut once, don't ever leave any tools or    Supplies that you won't leave sleep over if their stolen. I usually take everything home with me even the toilet paper I used.

Rental work........

Lately ol daddy Dave has been going out to the last rental project and trying to knock it out. The above pic is how it was pictured at the beginning, before demo.

well with demoing for the most part done its time to start putting it back together here is a pic of the new sub flooring going down, and itch-ulation going up under. I found its easier to do the itch-ulation now verses dragging it under the house and installing. This way I just carry inside and drop under the house then install.

just a pic of the actual itch-ulation hanging around, the work is coming along but still have plenty left to do.

Feet shmeet...........

The other evening daddy Dave sat down on the couch to relax, before he knew it he had one par of feet in his lap suggesting a foot massage. Well ol Dave likes to treat his ol wifey once in a while so after some oils were obtained the foot massage began. Old daddy Dave's wifey is of child now and he trys to understand her tiredness and etc, so a foot massage was due by far. One pair of feet? You may say but you see another smaller set, well let me explain. After the relaxing foot massage was under way, Malia wanted in on the action. So she climbed up on the couch and gingerly assumed the position. Well ol Davy has two hands so a double foot massage followed. malia kept saying "toes, toes".

Mitten tricks 101..........

The other evening little ol Malia wasn't getting her way, so she reached deep into her back of tricks and pulled out the crocodile tears. Well they really weren't so deep in her bag of tricks cause she likes to use them regularly. But this time she add a unique feature......gloves to hide her face while the fake tears accumulated. The temperature in the house was not as pictured, malia just requests to wear her new hat and mittens inside occasionally.

Hvac Upgrade.......

Well this year when it came around time to turn on the old furnace we were meet with a cold blast from the vents. It seems that our old trusty furnace wasn't so trusty after all, we always new it was on its last legs. Rather then paying a pricey bill to have fixed and it possible breaking down again, we decided to suck it up and upgrade. So hvac shopping began, at least we were fortunate to have a trusty fireplace insert which is always trusty but comes with more work. which oll daddy Dave is not afraid of, work that is.

Now you may ask why did daddy do-it-your-self Dave not attempt to do this task himself?  Well this is a very grey area for ol Davy, not familiar stomping grounds so best left up to the professionals. New wiring was needed, along with city inspections and red tape which is not Dave's cup of tea. So after much deliberation and many phone calls, and a  handful of estimates  a new unit was decided on and an installation date set. As that time has came and past we now have a new and improved hvac unit. Just in time for the coldest winter months ahead.

Ps ol daddy Dave is still gonna use the fireplace insert, nothing heats like wood.

Home shopping.?.......

This is a pick of Malia doing a little home shopping, nope not online and no home shopping tv, but shopping Malia style. I'll take one of these.......and one of these.....yep that too. The shopping cart was a gift from here grandpa Schaller and girlfriend. She really enjoys filling it up and pushing it around the house. I think in this pick she looks a little more grown up......slow it down girl...slow it down.

Smitten with mittens..........

When we awoke this morning and Malia was also up, she spied her new gloves. These  were a gift from her grandparents, the first thing she wanted to do was wear them. here's a couple pics of her enjoying them.

They soon had to be taken off because everyone knows you can't eat pancakes with mittens on.

Shaky jug.......

Well during the last get together at sister #4 birthday bash, a certain drink was made and consumed by the guest. The drinks ingredients contained a full bottle of Taqelia, lemons, sugar and ice then this trouble maker had to be shaken for a hour straight. In other words if ya wanna drink you have to shake.....there was a lot of shaking going on....shake, shake, pass don't mess up the rotation man. In above pic that scholarly brother took his turn in a little of the shaking, but I don't think he partook of the tasty beverage.

With all the consumption of this beverage you can guess that the party got a little crazy....but drama free. In the above pic the "shaky jug" was getting drank right from the container, I guess the tap wasn't fast enough.

the night was a blast but daddy Dave partook a little too much of the beverages and was feeling it the next day, to say the least. The black bars were put in place to pertect the innocent. Two batches of the infamous "shaky jug" we're made and consumed.

Gate shmate........

Just a quick pick of an evening project me and brother in law #4 got into. Above we see a un-gated driveway......

and wala here's the new gated driveway made from 100% recycled  items. just a few slats to replace and a couple hick-ups to address but now Barkley has boundaries when he visits sister #4 and her hubby.

Party at sister #4's.......

Yeah I know it's been a while Sence this party actually took place but it has taken about that long for my stomach not to get queazy when thinking of that evening(I per took in a little too much shake jug but more on that later). The theme of the party was dress to impress with thrift shop finds. Here is just a couple pics of some of the partakers dressed to impress fo sho. The above pic is the birthday girl and hubby.
mom and pop and scholarly brother
me and my old lady.........many more family members were present and dressed to impress but it seems the other pics were lost in translation. Was a fun and excited night.

Slaw head......

When eating dinner the other night Malia decided to see how much slaw she could stick to her face, I think extra mayo makes the cabbage stick better. What a weirdo.......she gets that from her mother.
