This little piggy........

This little piggy went to the market...........maybe this little piggy should have stayed home ....it seems this little piggy is a little cold, it has worked it's way out of one of Malia's fav sleepers. This photo reminds me of her aunt Holly, she is always making a silly face in most of her photos ....classic.

Helper.......

While momma mandy was making dinner she received a request by Malia to help her, of course a chair had to be pulled up but her assistance was appreciated(I think).

What tasty dish are they making?

Some ol lasagna with carrots, spinach, bell peppers and turkey burger, it was quiet tasty.

Winter storm 2013.........?

Well it's not really a winter storm but things tend to get blown out of proportion down here in the south , but there is sleet and ice forming on the roads and walkways. The past couple of days have been quiet cold here at the homestead, we have fired up that wood stove so the house is warm and toasty. Nether the smoke or ice is very visible in this pick but your just have to take my word for it.

Here Malia, Ella and daddy Dave are peering out the window at momma Mandy.

Daddy Dave threw down some ice melt on the slippery walk, it works pretty fast. As of this morning the ice is a thing of the past, it has been warming up and today may be a high of 48.

Peek-a-boo.........

While the party was winding down Ella grew tired and feel asleep on her mother (while she was dancing), so momma mandy put her in the car seat for a nap. Did she nap? Well the pic says it all she just peeped through an opening in the covers, she was content but still had a eye on the party.

And here's a pic of the now married couples get away vehicle, heading off to start their life together.

Dancing boots.....

During the mother son dance, uncle joel and his mother sped up the tempo and danced their asses off.

Here's a couple pics, the blurred motion is kind of neat.

I do have video of this, and it's classic. Looks like they had a blast.

Cousins......

Malias cousin Audrey, was down visiting for her uncle Joel's wedding all the way from Nebraska. Here Malia was giving her a ride around the house, Malia was driving Ms Audrey. Although seat belts didn't come with the ride Malia took good care not to exceed a safe speed.

Duck tape use #558.........

The other afternoon daddy Dave was backing up and brushed his driver side mirror on a bush this knocked it backwards which would typical not be a big deal being they are made to take this abuse to prevent further expensive damage. But in this particular case it broke.............after a bit of explicit language, time was of the essence so a bit of duck tape was added to hold it in place until further action could be taken.

The next day daddy Dave had a bit of spare time to take a closer look at the root of the problem. It seemed that the locking washer atop of the spring had popped off causing the mirror the move freely.

So after compressing the spring with a c-clamp and tapping the washer back into place, daddy Dave seemed to be back in business. Wait............that was too easy...............

Yep it was too easy and everything went off without a hitch............until daddy Dave tried to reattach the mirror. Snap.......crack.....capooey .........eBay here I come. With a replacement mirror on the way, I now know the proper way to reinstall the side mirror(press in the middle not the edges)

Ball and chain.......

This past weekend we had a bachelor party for my brother, here's a sneak peak at some of the entertainment. This lovely lady made out quit well in tips, here she is pictured doing one of her signature moves.

Here is that bachelor pictured with his ball and chain(a bowling ball chained around his ankle), he had to keep this on for the entire evening. One of the events of the night was for everyone attending to bring something unusual for him to eat, it had to be eatable straight out of the package. This was quite entertaining here he is pictured with a jar of pigs feet. Uncle J was a trooper and tasted everything which was brought(this was quite a feat being some of the stuff was quit unusually nasty). You can see the trash can readily accessible, no other details or pics of this fateful night will be released to the public for viewing to protect the innocent , but the entertainer did get a little wild.

Reuse.........

Do you ever find your mind wondering.............what did daddy Dave do with the other half of that door which he used to create an access panel on one of the rentals? Well set your mind at ease, it was put to good use and in this blog I will explain.

Here we have the current state of the main crawl space access, on the same house as the above pic. Being that daddy Dave uses this frequently this poorly constructed door needed to be addressed. It seems that some locals have been looking for goodies under this residence and I often arrive to find this access door ajar. One day when I visited this property all the houses on one side of the streets access doors were open, the ones which were locked were broken and the others left open. Now there really is nothing of value under my property but the current condition of the door needs to be addressed.

Here daddy Dave has taken the left over section of the door and made some adjustments, being it was too long.

Here we have the finished product, with a latch and lock access added and some stronger hinges, the door is ready for business. Now daddy Dave didn't put a lock on this door instead used a zip tie, why you may ask? If I had used a lock this would just send a message to potential theifs that there is something of value inside, and then they would break down the door only to be disappointed, giving me another project to fix. A zip tie says there's nothing of value in here, you can open the door if you want but I'm gonna know someone was snooping around(not many burglars carry a extra zip tie). You may also ask why didn't I just go ahead and make the door the same size as the opening, well I needed a spot to put a dryer vent and the construction of the house being brick and not wanting to knock out the current vents(quality constructed) or put a hole in the foundation I'm just gonna install it into the strip above the door.

Water main repair.....

It seems that we have ran into a problem here on Lenmore, it seems we have a water main break. The bad news is its on our side of the meter(city responsible for anything on their side) and the good news is daddy Dave has fixed this problem before(if that's good news). Late one night as daddy Dave was coming home from working on a rental he noticed water in the street just in front of his place of residence. After a closer inspection it was determined that there was indeed a break in he line somewhere between the water meter and the house. It was not a leak you could see, it was so far under ground all you could see was the water seeping out from the hill into the street.

Digging up the old line and repairing the leak was not an option being the old line was galvanized piping and it's route was under several rather large old trees(which probably contributed to the leak). In the pic above you can see the water mains old path and the hose marks the new route .

It just so happened that I front of my house I have a 4/5 foot slab of concrete directly in the water mains path. So a section was cut away and removed via sledge, and the new trench was being dug. Being the frost line in NC is 12" the water line needed to be buried lower than this. Daddy Dave did have a extra helper which was a blessing.

So with the trench dug and the concrete removed, the new line was buried and connected. Of course this is easier said than done and several complications did arise but all were solved by daddy Dave and his assistant. This did make for a late night, finishing up at 1am but it was all done in a days time(thanks to my help).

Here the new line is buried, all that's left is a little more clean up and removal of crushed concrete.

We ended up replacing 100% of the old water main all the way into the box. With no current leaks we are back in business, which reminds me I need to do a load of diapers.

Diaper duty......

While daddy Dave was performing opening duties around the house, he walked into the living room only to find that his oldest daughter Malia had taken it upon herself to fold the clean diapers. She often does this with her mother and does a good job, on this particular morning she was doing it with out being asked.........hmmmm is it time for chores? First she picked/selected a clean diaper.

Than she folded upon the floor, then neatly stacked them. She was enjoying some Sesame Street while performing her new found morning duties. Here she is seen taking a quick break whilst folding.
