It seems that we have ran into a problem here on Lenmore, it seems we have a water main break. The bad news is its on our side of the meter(city responsible for anything on their side) and the good news is daddy Dave has fixed this problem before(if that's good news). Late one night as daddy Dave was coming home from working on a rental he noticed water in the street just in front of his place of residence. After a closer inspection it was determined that there was indeed a break in he line somewhere between the water meter and the house. It was not a leak you could see, it was so far under ground all you could see was the water seeping out from the hill into the street.
Digging up the old line and repairing the leak was not an option being the old line was galvanized piping and it's route was under several rather large old trees(which probably contributed to the leak). In the pic above you can see the water mains old path and the hose marks the new route .
It just so happened that I front of my house I have a 4/5 foot slab of concrete directly in the water mains path. So a section was cut away and removed via sledge, and the new trench was being dug. Being the frost line in NC is 12" the water line needed to be buried lower than this. Daddy Dave did have a extra helper which was a blessing.
So with the trench dug and the concrete removed, the new line was buried and connected. Of course this is easier said than done and several complications did arise but all were solved by daddy Dave and his assistant. This did make for a late night, finishing up at 1am but it was all done in a days time(thanks to my help).
Here the new line is buried, all that's left is a little more clean up and removal of crushed concrete.
We ended up replacing 100% of the old water main all the way into the box. With no current leaks we are back in business, which reminds me I need to do a load of diapers.
