Like a kitten......

Well the cold weather is upon us which means firing up the old wood burning fireplace, those of which use one. Daddy Dave has had Grandpa Anderson's log splitter on loan for some time, being that time of the year grandpa needed this back in order to do some splitting of his own. Daddy Dave didn't really use this splitter last year being he was super busy and didn't have the time which wood burning requires(cutting, splitting, stacking, burning, cleaning, etc). Daddy Dave does have a sizable stack of wood which needs to be split, so before he returns the borrowed power house he plans to get what he has done.

When daddy Dave went to crank the splitter it fired up immediately but then cut off, after pulling the plug it was discovered there was a lot of gas behind it. It seems that the float in the carb was stuck causing the motor to flood out. This often happens when a carburetor sits for some time. Well this is an easy fix after pulling the carburetor some carb cleaner was used. In the pic above you can see some gunk in the bottom of the carburetor bowl.

You can't tell from the pic but this baby is purring like a kitten.......

After a test run.......a lot of splitting..... it was decided that this beast of a machine was again running like a top. Daddy Dave got about half of the amount needed split hopefully he can finish it up before returning it to its rightfull owner. An oil change and filters is next on the list. On further note daddy Dave often finds himself laughing as he visits local home improvement stores and sees their log spliters on display.......one word ....puny.......in comparison.
